Our General Dentistry Services

  • Regular Check-up and cleans

At Dental Care Glebe we believe that the first step to healthier looking teeth is a check up and clean.

Comprehensive oral examinations and x-rays can help identify and resolve potential problems such as cavities, gum disease, root issues and more, well before they develop into serious issues for your oral health. In addition to this, regular teeth cleaning every 6 months keeps your pearly whites shining and smiling for longer. Our regular cleans help remove tough calculus and plaque build-up, as well as polish and remove stains that you can’t get off with your toothbrush.

For New Patients, if you don’t have a dental emergency it is recommended to take advantage of our New Patient Check up and Clean Package. This allows us to get to know you and your overall oral health, and set a future treatment plan that will maintain optimal results for your teeth.

  • Radiographs (X-rays)

Dental X-rays are a useful diagnostic tool when helping your dentist detect damage and disease not visible during a regular dental exam. How often X-rays should be taken depends on your present oral health, your age, your risk for disease, and any signs and symptoms of oral disease. For example, children may require X-rays more often than adults because their teeth and jaws are still developing and their teeth are more likely to be affected by tooth decay than those of adults. Your dentist will review your history, examine your mouth and then decide whether or not you need X-rays.

If you are a new patient, the dentist may recommend X-rays to determine the present status of your oral health and have a baseline to help identify changes that may occur later. A new set of X-rays may be needed to help your dentist detect any new cavities, determine the status of your gum health or evaluate the growth and development of your teeth. If a previous dentist has any radiographs of you, your new dentist may ask you for copies of them. Ask both dentists to help you with forwarding your X-rays.

Dental X-ray exams are safe; however, they do require very low levels of radiation exposure, which makes the risk of potentially harmful effects very small. Dental X-ray tools and techniques are designed to limit the body's exposure to radiation and every precaution is taken to ensure that radiation exposure is As Low As Reasonable Achievable.

  • Periodontal Disease (Gum Disease)

A Risk to Your Future Smile

When gingivitis isn’t treated, it can progress into something more severe. Periodontitis impacts both the bone and gums around the teeth. It can have an effect on other health problems like diabetes or high blood pressure, making them more difficult to manage. Without treatment, periodontitis will get worse as more bone is lost, causing tooth mobility or loss. Understanding the disease is the first step in treating it.

A Risk to Your Overall Health

If periodontal disease is allowed to continue, the bacteria under your gums spread toxins into your supporting bone and cardiovascular system. This infection can carry it to other areas of the body. Studies show that untreated gum disease is directly correlated with several risk factors —heart problems, premature babies and stroke — and many other medical conditions.

Periodontitis can never be fully reversed or bone regrown where once lost. It can only be halted at the point it is at. After your initial periodontal treatments, our highly trained dentists will likely recommend a series of maintenance appointments to help you keep your smile healthy.

  • Fillings

Whether your tooth has experienced decay or has been worn down or eroded, we use the the latest modern and safe materials to re-build and re-strengthen your teeth. We are an amalgam-free practice and use white filling material that colour match and blend seamlessly with your existing tooth structure. Getting this treatment done at Dental Care Glebe will mean you wouldn’t even know you had a filling!

All of our restorative treatments are undertaken in our calm, modern and relaxing clinic. We also offer Netflix for you to enjoy on the  TV above during your appointment. This ensures the experience is as stress-free as possible.

Depending on the size of your cavity, our professionals can restore your tooth with a white or porcelain filling.

White resin fillings are preferred over traditional mercury fillings because of their minimally invasive nature. Instead of being wedged into place by having a larger portion of tooth cut away, the resin bonds naturally to your enamel, reducing its likelihood of breaking under pressure. This seal also prevents bacteria from leaking in around the margin of the restoration, limiting the chance of recurrent decay and allowing the filling to last longer.

Porcelain fillings are used when a larger area of the tooth is damaged but otherwise structurally healthy. They are custom-made in a lab, similar to how crowns are designed.

    What About Metal Fillings?

Old amalgam (metal) fillings have a tendency to gradually contribute to the tooth cracking apart over time. They also require that healthy tooth structure is removed to keep the filling in place. If you have an old mercury filling that needs to be changed out, a porcelain filling or crown may be your next step.

  • Crowns

Crowns, sometimes called “caps”, slip over your remaining tooth structure to provide strength and protection to teeth. Dental crowns serve to protect the tooth structure that cannot otherwise be restored with fillings or other types of dental restorations.

Crowns are used on teeth that have been weakened by a crack, large cavity, root canal treatment, excessive wear, fractured fillings, large fillings or other structural damage. All of our dental crowns are custom designed to ensure they blend and colour match seamlessly with your smile.

Crowns restore the size of shortened teeth, can eliminate sensitivity, and improve the aesthetics of the teeth.

  • Endodontic treatment

    Tooth Nerve Therapy

When the nerve of a tooth dies, bacteria can start to multiply inside of it. Ultimately, our bodies will begin to reject the dead nerve inside the tooth, which can lead to pain. An infection like tooth decay can cause the tooth to become hypersensitive to cold, heat or pressure.

A root canal with one of our highly trained family dentists can help you to preserve your tooth instead of needing to have it extracted.

Filling the Inside of the Nerve Chamber

Root canal therapy treats the tooth from the inside out. During the procedure, one of our experienced dentists will remove the infection and medicate the inside of the tooth. We will then fill the chamber to seal off the nerve canal. Usually it is recommended that a crown that be placed over the tooth so that it does not break.

The process typically takes 2 to 3 visits and will need additional appointment for crown placement.

Without root canal (endodontic) treatment, the infection inside of your tooth could spread to elsewhere in the body. What may look like a small abscess on your gums could indeed cause far greater health complications, including damage to the bone around your teeth.

  • Tooth Extraction

At Dental Care Glebe, our highly trained family dentists offer complete wisdom tooth care and extraction services. Our modern practice offers the latest technology and techniques to care for your whole family. Wisdom teeth removal is one of the most common extractions performed.

Why Does My Tooth Need to Be Pulled?

Dental extractions are typically reserved for situations where a tooth is no longer restorable or is causing severe pain. Here are some common reasons for having a tooth removed:

    • Large areas of decay
    • Deep cracks that extend through to the root of the tooth
    • Mobility due to advanced gum disease
    • Emergency situations
    • Large breaks in the tooth
    • Wisdom teeth

Eliminating the source of pain or infection allows you to move forward with ensuring your comfort and avoiding the spread of infection to adjacent teeth.

Will It Hurt to Have My Tooth Extracted?

With years of experience under their belt, our dentists know exactly what steps to help you remain comfortable throughout your oral surgery procedure. We will gladly explain the entire process to you so that you can feel confident about your decision. Happy gas or Conscious Sedation is also available to put your mind at ease, in addition to thoroughly numbing the area before we begin any work on your mouth.

    After Your Surgery

Depending on the location of your tooth, you will most likely want to replace it as quickly as possible. Otherwise, the other teeth will begin to lean or shift, as books would if their neighbour was taken off of the shelf.

Our highly skilled dentists will suggest an appropriate option to replace your tooth, such as a dental implant or bridge. As always, you also have the choice to leave the area alone. At Dental Care Glebe we will never force you into having a treatment that you do not feel comfortable with.

  • Wisdom Tooth Extraction

Wisdom teeth are usually the last teeth to appear in our mouths, coming through between the ages 18 to 21. If there is sufficient space in your mouth, the wisdom teeth will come through without problems. However, this is not always the case. For some people the wisdom teeth may erupt at a later time or never at all.

Sometimes there may not be enough room for the teeth to erupt properly causing areas where food can become trapped, leading to infection and possible decay.

  • Teeth Replacement

When you lose a tooth, it’s like taking a book off of the shelf. Other books (or in this case, teeth) will lean into the open space. When this happens inside of your mouth, it can impact your entire smile. Even the opposing tooth can become overgrown. Depending on the location of your missing tooth, the highly accomplished dentists at Dental Care Glebe may recommend a variety of options available to replace it.

Why Do Missing Teeth Need to Be Replaced?

In most cases, it is best to replace the missing tooth as soon as possible so that neighbouring teeth are not impacted by misalignment, abnormal wear or susceptibility to decay. Even the opposing tooth can begin to erupt further out of space without a partner to bite against. Missing teeth can also cause a significant amount of embarrassment or loss of confidence.

    Choosing Your Best Treatment

The type of replacement tooth that you and our dentists choose from will be dependent on your current oral health and long-term goals. Our capable team of skilled providers may recommend one of the following types of treatment:

    • Dental Implants – An artificial tooth that functions independently of other teeth. Implants can support restorations like crowns or bridges to replace as few or many teeth as necessary.
    • All-on-4™ Implants – Replaces all of your upper or lower teeth at one time, with a permanently fixed denture.
    • Fixed Bridge – Two functional crowns are anchored onto neighbouring teeth, with an artificial tooth suspended between them. These are ideal for replacing one or two teeth at a time.
    • Partial Denture – A removable prosthesis that hooks around remaining teeth. Partials allow you to preserve as many healthy teeth as possible while replacing the missing ones in a single step.
    • Full Dentures – If all of your remaining teeth need to be removed, a removable full denture can be worn to replace all of them with a single prosthesis.

  • Implants

A dental implant is a great permanent solution for missing teeth. A titanium screw is inserted in to the jaw bone with a replacement tooth or teeth mounted on top. After an initial consultation, we will advise the best treatment for you and advise payment options.

Sometimes there is a need for additional or alternative procedures to support your implant. Bone grafting and gum grafting can be used to achieve the best results in some circumstances.

  • Bridge

A dental bridge is a great way to restore your smile if you are missing one or two teeth. This is a fantastic, cost-effective treatment option to close a gap created by a missing tooth. It also improves your ability to chew your favourite foods, prevent teeth from moving into the space formed by the gap, and help restore your smile!

  • Sports Mouth Guards

Are you part of an athletic team or involved in individual sports? Wearing a custom-fitted mouthguard can reduce the risk of trauma or broken teeth during athletic activities. Our experienced dentists have treated hundreds of dental emergencies over the years. Fortunately, Dental Care Glebe patients can be spared pain and discomfort by protecting their teeth with a fitted appliance.

Which Type of Sports Mouthguard Should I Wear?

Over-the-counter guards are quite loose and bulky. They don’t provide much support, so there is often a greater risk of injury. In contrast, a customised sports mouthguard will stay in place and guard against problems like

    • Concussions
    • Broken or chipped teeth
    • Knocked-out teeth
    • Lip lacerations

Having a custom-made appliance is one of the most effective ways to protect your teeth during athletic events. To make yours, Dental Care Glebe will take an impression of your teeth to create a fitted guard that hugs comfortably around your teeth to protect them during specific types of activities. We can even adjust the thickness or colour of your mouthguard to meet your personal preferences.
